2/22/99- Another week has gone by and we have been playing ball everyday. Not the same guys play everyday but there are games. Tom Thayer has a condo right by the court so he is always there and ready to play. Now that he is here the games get started earlier than usual. When I go I am always there early so we usually only need two more players to get started. Somehow no matter what time it is, once the first game starts players start showing up all at once.
Bob(Tom T's) friend from Chicago is here visiting Tom and is a good player so that is one more. Currently there are 3 or 4 tourist players hanging out at the court, all are good players.. Some big boys! I am terrible at names so I can't tell you who they are. Actually, I do know one name it is Brad, I am sure you all know who he is now. Mike Carey is playing a lot getting back his game after the foot surgery. Scot is on the mainland for a short trip he should be back this week sometime. The whales are very active right now, this is their favorite time of the year here. You can easily seem them from the court. We have lots of double rainbows right now too. There is rain in the mountains which creates them(plus our Maui sun).
No word on the Kanaha tourney, so I have no new info.
I do know who won the Dinosaur Tourney in Kona last weekend. Mark Haine and Jon Anderson got first in the mens, and Karen Janc and Sharri Miller of San Diego won the womens.
Thanks David Chaikin for sending me the info.
2/17/99-
Happy Birthday Micah!

Today is my sons birthday, he is taking off tomorrow to visit his sisters in Pacific Beach California. I sure wish I was going with him.
Micah your father loves you very much!

2/15/99-We have had great weather all week long. There are also several visitors here enjoying our beautiful island. Sue Holmes and Martha are leaving today for Mountain View, Ca.. I didn't get a chance to play with Sue while she was here, hopefully next time I will get too. Greg, Patty and Kyle from Lake Tahoe are here also and enjoying their stay. Maggie showed up from Chicago to visit with Tom Thayer for a while. Colleen and Eric came to the beach on Sunday, we don't see her that much now that she is expecting child. It was good to see them too. Jeff Poppinga showed up on Sunday and supposedly will be back again today(Monday). Scot T. Rotten is on a mainland trip. Herm Denitz showed up on Sunday and played with Kevin B., Herm still has it, he played well.

I haven't heard any new word on the mixed tourney in Kanaha in two weeks, but figure it is still happening.
Take care, play hard and see you at the beach!

2/8/99- We have had great weather since Thursday, with lots of games. Sue Holmes and her friend Martha are here visiting from the Bay Area. She usually comes several times a year.  Herm just got back yesterday from another of his California trips. And Mike Carey is already back on the court playing after his foot surgery a couple of months ago.
We now have both courts at the Marriott, we finally lost so much beach at the Sheraton we have to move the last one. Some of our regulars haven't shown up but they will, we are getting plenty of games anyway.
Those playing over the weekend: Tom Thayer, Ceeks, Steve M., Tom Beck, Tom Hunter, Rotten, Ken Harris, Mike Carey, Aussie Dave, Jim Sweeney, Brooke, Kevin B., Carl and a few tourists. If you played and I left your name out, I apologize. It is hard to sit here this early in the morning remembering names.
There will be a mixed doubles tournament in Kanaha towards the end of the month.

2/1/99- This last week I was very busy and didn't make it to the court during the week at all. I did go by on Friday but it was so windy I didn't wait, I, did some much needed shopping instead. I continue getting email from players from all over the world. Lots of you mention you are coming to play but when here you never let me know who you are. Don't be shy, say "I saw it on the Net", or whatever you feel like. This isn't court news but is Net related and personal so I will put it here. Have you tried Microsoft NetMeeting. It is a great program letting a person use their computer to talk live over the Net to anyone else with NetMeeting. All that is required is the program(NetMeeting), a microphone and speakers. This is assuming that you have a multimedia setup on your computer. Any computer sold in the last couple of years is capable. If you have it give me a call. On the home page for here you will see a link to click on and call me.
My other new interest is MP3. It is a way to either download CD quality music to your computer or copy it from one of your CD's and listen to it with your computer. The good part is no CD's are involved. It is stored on your computer in rather small files(compared to full audio files). The very exciting part is that you can get a portable MP3 player called Diamond Rio. It is a walkman type portable that uses no CD. It lets you download from your computer any song you wish and listen to it anywhere. The good part again is no CD!, no moving parts and you can put exactly the songs on it you want. The list price for the Rio is $199. On the net at NECX you can get it for $189. There is one coming you can put in your car too. Sure beats tapes and CD's. You can find a lot more info about MP3 at MP3.COM.
Till next week, take care and 'See you on the Beach!'..
